B-ettes menstrual tampon (U.S.A., about
1939)
proposal to dealers: page
1
This folded, 4-page sheet (8" x
10", about 20.3 x 25.3 cm) lay in
the bottom of the display box,
under the two tampon boxes.
Only in this proposal meant for
druggists does the word "tampon"
appear - in other words, in
something not meant for customers'
eyes, just as red appears only
here, not on the items meant for
customers.
Procter & Gamble kindly
donated the box and contents as
part of a gift of scores of
menstrual products.
|
Red decorates all
the pages of the proposal. This
first of four pages appears in
color (and small), as I want to
show the splashy advertising with
a color that almost disappeared
from menstrual product packaging,
but pops up often on products in
the early days of tampons.
The word in the red
at top left is "Important"; the
words at lower right are
"SEE INSIDE . . ." , and
both appear in different type
faces, which are themselves
different from those of the letter
head and the body of the letter.
|
The letter head,
above, shows a different address
from the instructions.
The body of the letter, below
