B-ettes menstrual tampon (U.S.A., about 1939)
instructions

Just like the color red, you won't find the word "tampon" anywhere in the instructions or on the box, things meant for the customers, but you will find it in the proposal, the one thing meant only for druggists.

NEXT: proposal to dealers - Introduction and display box - the open display box - tampon
Procter & Gamble kindly donated the box and contents as part of a gift of scores of menstrual products.
At top are the "outside" pages (4 and 1) of the instructions; below them are pages 2 and 3. The open sheet measures 4" x 5" (wide) (10.2 x 12.7 cm) and is printed on both sides and lies in the box.
It's strange that the company's address, below left, differs from the New York address printed everywhere else on the contents.
"Without use of pads," in the middle of the right-hand page, is interestingly similar to what o.B. (as in the tampon) means in German: Without a pad (ohne Binde. o.B.; it started life in Germany).
