for the disposal of Kotex menstrual
pads, 1920s, in Spanish
In the Wallace Meyer collection
of the State Historical Society of
Wisconsin one can see this booklet
from the 1920s in Spanish
describing Kotex. Women disposed
of Kotex by taking it apart and
flushing the parts down the
toilet. The company changed its
directions later because of the
problems with stopped-up toilets
(see the report
from Dr. Lillian Gilbreth in
1927). Other companies have
introduced pads supposedly capable
of being flushed - links below and
at left - but many don't
seem to survive the test of
plumbing.
