MUSEUM OF MENSTRUATION AND WOMEN'S HEALTH

Meds menstrual tampons, super absorbency
The Modess tampon

(1970, Johnson & Johnson, New Zealand)

Introduction.

I thank the former Tambrands, which made Tampax before Procter & Gamble bought the company, for donating the box!
Below: One side of the instructions, which folds in half (the first page is at right,
the back at left) which measure as shown 5 1/8 x 3 3/16" (12.9 x 8.1 cm).
Wow, how times change! The first Q & A seems to equate single girls with virginity!
The short vertical black lines in some corners, like right below at left,
probably indicated either where a machine was to cut the paper
or served as marks to line up the red printing plate with the
black one.
Below: The other side.
Under COMPLETE COMFORT: A MUM visitor reported that in the Traumarama section of a recent
Seventeen magazine (December 2009?) a reader related how a cheerleader hoisted aloft in a team
stunt DID have "outward indication that [she was] wearing sanitary protection."
The guy holding her feet could see the tampon string hanging out of the crotch of her underpants.
See a roughly contemporary French ad for Modess, probably more risque than those
in New Zealand (or the U.S.A.).
