Can I bathe when I have my period?
You can do everything you usually do. There's no reason to not play sports or anything else you like, like riding or dancing. You should try to behave normally when you are menstruating. Swimming is good if you use a tampon.
Intimate protection
Menstruation has always been connected with myths and strange stories!
The ancient Persians believed that if their women's period lasted longer than five days they were possessed by an evil spirit that must be beaten out of them. In other cultures it was better if the period lasted longer since one saw that as a way for the body to rid itself of evil.
In earlier times menstruation was blamed for ruining crops, spoiling beer, even for causing homemade mayonnaise to separate.
People still have strange beliefs. Some believe for example that girls shouldn't wash their hair when they're menstruating, or eat certain kinds of food, swim or exercise.
But girls now know that menstruation is no reason to change their routine. Girls today want to have a rich, active and interesting life - with or without menstruation. They won't let menstruation stop them!

The right choice for you
Menstrual blood is odorless in your body [how do people know that?] but when it comes in contact with air it can begin to smell bad. Therefore it's important that menstruation be managed in a hygienic and discreet way. That can be done with menstrual pads or tampons.
Menstrual pads
A pad is an outer protection and absorbs menstrual blood after it's left the body. You can get pads in different shapes, sizes and powers of absorption. They have adhesive strips on the underside. The pad is held in place by sticking to the panties. You use minipads or pantypads between periods if you have a heavy discharge from the vagina.
You should change pads every four to six hours, more often when the period is heavy. That way you avoid odor that occurs when the pad is in place too long. When you change pads, you should wrap the used pad in a little paper before you throw it in the trash.
Tampons
Tampons are a kind of minipad with strong absorption capacity. it's placed in the vagina. Even if a tampon is smaller than a usual pad you must remember that it's compressed and will expand in your body so that it will effectively absorb the menstrual blood. Tampons give you complete and invisible protection. You get them with various absorption capacities for light, medium and heavy bleeding.
Tampons are very comfortable to use when they are in the right place - in fact so comfortable that you don't notice them! You always know pads are there. On the contrary, with tampons you can forget that you are menstruating and continue with your usual activities including swimming.
You should change tampons every four to six hours. Choose a type with an absorbency that's right for how heavy your period is.
