Kotex doesn't show! Kotex menstrual pad ad, January, 1927 (U.S.A.)

Kotex's 1920s ads represent the beautiful illustration of the era. And what better contrast than rich clothes, rich women and - yuck! - menstruation? It heightened the anxiety of the viewer but also allowed a peek into the dreamland of the rich.

Details are below the top picture.

The ad measures 10.5 x 13.75" (ca. 26.5 x 34.9 cm), normal for the time. Ah, the good ol' days!

Upper-class ladies have typified early Kotex ads, especially in the 1920s. But Modess shared that clientele in its "Modess . . . .because" ads. See similar Kotex ads: general discussion and ad prototype - January 1921 - May 1921 - November 1921.

If looks could kill! The maid's probably wondering if she can put anything on the table for dinner that night while holding the rich bi-, er, ladies' clothing. Note that they're all white and pretty. The ladies seem awfully affected.

Kotex represented liberation for many women since it replaced washable pads. Traveling women would often have to burn their washable pads, an expensive option for poorer women. But Kotex itself was not cheap.
