Dale lubricated menstrual tampons (1930s-1940s?, U.S.A.)
Tampon

See the box (main page) and instructions (with a test for the tampon the user could perform herself)

The Procter & Gamble company kindly donated these tampons to the museum, part of a large gift.

The tampon appears out of its cellophane wrapper. I wet the right
end of it with water to see if that created a lubricant,
as
promised in the instructions
; yes, it did, even after possibly 60 years.
The water created the dark spot; the tip did not expand until I
submerged the whole tampon into the water, and then only reluctantly. But it did.
Below:  The tampon expanded to its fullest after about three
minutes in a glass of water.

From the 1950s to the 1970s women could buy another lubricated tampon in the U.S.A., Pursettes.
