The Periodic Cycle, menstruation booklet
in blue print for teenage girls (1938, The Personal Products Corp., maker
of Modess pads) Cover
In contrast to this pamphlet's probable companion, What
a trained nurse wrote to her young sister, Modess made this one for
older teenage girls.
It's more technical and gives a little cultural history for the girl
recovering from the trauma of having to menstruate in the first place, as
well as those who were happy to do so. In this, it's like the Kotex booklet
Preparing for Womanhood (1928, Australian edition).
It provides more information than the original Marjorie
May (1928) booklet by Kotex. And the language is more adult than Marjorie Learns About Life (1936, which, however, is
more fun to read), which did begin to get to the terrifying (for most mothers)
meat of the matter that most parents avoided - and avoid.
