Chichesters (or Chi-ches-ters or with 's) English Pennyroyal Diamond
Brand pills for menstruation problems like pain, scanty or no menses (amenorrhea,
dysmenorrhea), and probably abortion, 1890s-early 20th century, U.S.A.
Box, probably before 1906.
The donor writes that this held smaller boxes (here)
and sat on a store counter.
Because the box bears "pennyroyal" and not the 1906 act probably
banning it I date it before that time.

Below: I lightened the cover to make it
legible. The metal container measures 7 x 3 x 3.25" (18 x 7.5 x 8 cm).
The inside of the lid bears the same design but is in better shape.

Below: Bottom of can. My arrow
points to a metal flange that anchored the ribbon that originally encircled
the box.
Around it seem to be remnants of a seal across
the flange and ribbon.

Below: Both ends carry the same design.

See the sides on the next
page.
