The Art of Menstruation at the Museum of Menstruation and Women's Health

The third one in the series is called "Mi tupela save bilum i bugarup." In tok pisin from Papua, New Guinea, it means that we know there are not going to be any babies. The broken bilum is represented symbolically by stitching in the lower abdomen of the female figure. It represents the mature and married woman, and her husband, realising their infertility. The patterns along the border are bilum patterns. The use of foreign language titles reflects my background (French Canadian) as well as my geographic location at particular periods of my life.
