Tampax Junior menstrual tampon, 1939-40, U.S.A., (page 3)
Tampon

Read the main discussion.

In 1997 Tambrands, the then-maker of Tampax, gave these boxes to this museum as part of an amazing gift of 450 boxes of tampons dating to the founding of the second Tampax company, 1936, plus hundreds of other items.

Below: Cellophane covers the tampon and applicator, which measure 4 7/8" x 3/8" (at the widest) (12.5 x 1.2 cm). The cellophane easily peels off. A very early Tampax has paper covering.

Below: The cotton tampon plug measures 1 7/8" x 1/5" (4.8 x 1.2 cm) and the string stretches 3 7/8" (9.5 cm) - different from an earlier version. The inner tube is 3" x 3/8" (7.6 x 1 cm), the outer 2 3/4" x 1/2" (7 x 1.3 cm).
