See a Pursettes booket for teenagers (late
1950s?).
The Pursettes black
plastic tote
(carrier) with tampons. (An ad sold the tote,
and an enthusiastic customer mentions the
tote in her testimonial.)

lubricated applicator menstrual
tampons, box of 16, 1960-70s?

Illinois, U.S.A.
The early (1930s?-40s)
no-applicator Dale
tampon (with an ad) also had a
lubricated tip, rare
among menstrual tampons.

Below:
The blue cellophane-like covering
distantly resembles the weak blue
of the cardboard
tubes in the second
picture, below.
The
Turkish Tampax knock-off called Tampex
(note the "e") had
a similar
color wrapper. |
|
Below:
The tubes are a faint blue
- compare with the white string
- possibly the dry lubricant
although the lubricant on the tip
of the absorbing plug is yellow.
|
|
Below:
The top,
plug-bearing tube,
measures 2 3/4 x 1/2" (about 7 x
1.4 cm);
the bottom
one - the "pusher" - 2
7/8 x 7/16" (about 7.3 x 1.2 cm).
|
|
Below:
Compared with its own diagram (at
right), Pursettes came kinda close
to these measurements:
the plug,
the absorbing part, is 2 3/16
(instead of 2") x 1/2" (5.5 x 1.2
cm)
and the string
4 3/4" (12 cm).
The lubricated
tip (right) is yellow,
not the blue of the lubricated
tubes. The diagram
comes from the instructions.
