The Museum of Menstruation and Women's Health

Primella tampons (Switzerland?, 1969)

In this museum the Swiss possibly made two tampon contributions, Primella and Sanpax, an odd tampon that possibly never made it to store shelves.

At first I thought Primella was Tampax in disguise but as you'll see there are differences, possibly to avoid patent conflicts.

And nothing declares patent or trademark information nor even who made it or where. Based on the three languages in the instructions, German, French and Italian, I figured the Swiss made it. That source of all knowledge and wisdom, Google, located a Primella ad in Le Journal du Sud Bourgeois for 14 April 2009, published in Switzerland, so it probably does come from that country.

And it's alive today!

Another Swiss tampon.

I thank Tambrands, the former maker of Tampax, for donating the box from its archives!
Below: The cardboard box measures 5 3/8 x 3 1/8 x 1 1/8" (13.8 x 7.7 x 2.7 cm) and is redder
than the picture. Someone at Tambrands, which donated the box, typed the label.
NYO probably means New York Office.
Below: The only other text on the box is on the small sides, which
are identical. I tried but failed to find out what lay under the yellow sticker.
The same curiosity made me start this museum.
