Wampole's Antiseptic Vaginal Cones of Boroglyceride Compound,
and the same with ichthyol

Sheet of products' descriptions (late 19th, early 20th century?), back and front,
and a notice of misbranding judgment against the product,
one of four, 1930

Alcohol ruled the 19th century!

Well, together with opium, morphine - it's a big list.

So why is this Wampole vaginal cone - women inserted it into their vaginas -
featured here?

Because the public and finally the new Food & Drug Administration got mad
enough to do something about the feel-good medicines (and sometimes
not even that) that people bought, lured by companies into believing that their many ills
could be gulped - or inserted - away and which, just by (cough) coincidence (cough), made entrepreneurs
millions of dollars.

The "medicine" below formed part of the crackdown on quacks. Which has not ended.
What a way to cheat Americans!

See a box of similar Wampole's Vaginal Cones.

More 1930s fraud exposed in products for women.

Below: The 5 9/16 x 8 3/4" (about 14.1 x 22.2 cm) sheet was folded
into quarters then folded into thirds - imagine having to do that
all day - and probably included in a box of these cones.
Below: The other side of the sheet.
Below: One of the Food & Drug Administration's judgments against the product (I added the red)
in U. S. v. 34 11/12 Dozen Packages (link on that page, from which this copy is taken).
