She may have got her technique and use of black and white from the brilliant English artist Aubrey Beardsley, who influenced many illustrators of her time; he died in 1898. But Beardsley had none of her humor.

These two drawings are from a series called "The Horrors of a War Bazaar" (this is World War I). The bottom one has a long caption (typical of the era), entitled "Alienists, Ahoy!" and says, in part, "...we witness a pitiable spectacle - the poor devil who managed the bazaar...."
